Weekend Snow Expected For Westchester

WESTCHESTER, NY--The National Weather Service is calling for snow across Westchester County overnight on Friday into Saturday.

A Winter Storm Watch has been posted.

The snow is expected to start around 4 a.m. Saturday, with an overnight low of between 20 and 24 degrees depending on elevation. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent. A total accumulation of 1-3 inches is expected overnight.Snow will continue into daylight hours Saturday,  until around 1 p.m., with an additional accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible with a high temperature of about 32 degrees.

Forecasters say travel could be hazardous. Joan McDonald, New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner, is urging motorists to exercise caution when traveling. "By slowing down, giving snow plows room to work and allowing extra time to get to your destination, we can save lives on New York's highways this winter," said McDonald.

McDonald suggests motorists avoid unnecessary travel and check 511 or 511ny.org for the latest travel conditions.  In addition, she recommends motorists have an emergency kit prepared stocked with sand, shovel, flares, booster cables, ice scraper, blankets, water and rope, in the event their car becomes disabled or stranded.
