George Klasic, owner of Hastings Liquors, spent Christmas day relaxing and celebrating with his immediate family after a busy week.

"We've had a very good and busy holiday season with customers coming in to visit," Klasic said. "We are always busy this time of year, so I like to spend a Christmas at home with the family. I came in to check on some things (Christmas day) and the phone was ringing off the hook. We'll be ready for New Year's  this week."

Rebecca Bitondo of Yorktown Heights said she and her family started the holidays by attending Lessons in Carols at St. Mary Star of the Sea church on City Island - a family tradition.

"On Christmas Eve, I sang a mass at St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown and then went home to bed. My parents and I have all gotten sick," she said, "But, Christmas Day, we were all well enough to open presents together and spent the day relaxing and celebrating as a family."

Reverend Dr. Calvin Sampson, who lives in Yonkers, spent Christmas as he has for most of his career as a minister.

"We were at Shiloh Baptist Church in Harlem and then with family and friends," Sampson said. "At this time of year it is so important to recognize the love of God in the world and to honor the birth of Jesus. The holiday is always a blessing and we should have that feeling every day."

Denise Spiller, who lives in Hastings but works at Cherry Lawn Gift Shop in New Rochelle, said her family flew up for nine hours from Brazil.

"Spending time with my family is very special to me," she said.

United Parcel Post delivery man Louis Martinez of Yonkers was back at work after a needed break for Christmas.

"It's a very busy time of the year for us, so Christmas was a time to be with family at home," Martinez said. "I made 240 deliveries Christmas Eve. Having off on Christmas was great."
