Dr. Robert Louis Quintano, M.D., J.D., 72, Of Scarsdale, Navy Veteran

SCARSDALE, N.Y. - Dr. Robert Louis Quintano, M.D., J.D., of Scarsdale died Sunday, Aug. 24. He was 72.

Dr. Quintano was born in the Bronx, to Louis Quintano and Eva Quintano (née Guzzi). He grew up in Parkchester and moved to Colonial Heights in Yonkers when he was 12. He attended Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx (class of 1960) and earned his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University in 1964. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1968. From 1970 to 1972, he served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy. In 1996, he graduated from Pace University School of Law. He worked as a physician at Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville for 32 years and had a private plastic surgery practice in Bronxville. He was a Knight in the Sacred Constantinian Military Order of Saint George and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

In 1998, he founded Saint Anthony's Free Medical Clinic, providing free care to the uninsured poor in the South Bronx.

Dr. Quintano is survived by his wife, Shelley Quintano (née Hopper); children, Sarah, Kimberly, Laura, Kenneth, Tammy, Thomas, Eva and William; stepchildren, John Buonarobo and Paula Bruce; brothers, Vincent Quintano and Louis Quintano; and sister-in-law, Patricia (née Baselice). He was predeceased by his parents; sister-in-law, Patrea Quintano (née Neergaard); and many aunts and uncles.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes in Scarsdale. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale.
