Edward Rainbow, 84, Retired Scarsdale Police Officer

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Edward Rainbow, of Tarrytown, died Jan. 9. He was 84.

Rainbow served as a police officer in the Scarsdale Police Department for 23 years before retiring in 1971.

Born Nov. 23, 1928, in White Plains, he was the son of Thomas and Catherine Deery Rainbow. He worked as a stationary engineer for International Union of Operating Engineers Local 30 for 10 years before retiring in 1993.

A member of the White Plains Elks, Rainbow served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-49. He married Mary Songlet in Scarsdale Feb. 28, 1969.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Edwin Rainbow, Richard Rainbow, Robin (Robert) Melly and Robert (Alice) Lousberg; a sister, Marjorie Hale; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charlie and James Rainbow.

Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. Friday at McMahon, Lyon an Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Scarsdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Phelps Hospice, 701 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591.
