SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Francis Alter, 83, of Scarsdale, died Monday, June 29.
He was born Nov. 3, 1931, to Louis and Connie Alter in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from LaSalle Military Academy and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He continued his studies at Villanova University. After graduation, he remained an active alumnus. He worked as a specialist on the floor of the American Stock Exchange and as a partner of the Kalb-Voorhis firm.
He was an active parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale. He spent his summers with family and friends in Belgrade Lakes, Maine, and was a longtime volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. For 52 years, he enjoyed rounds of golf and good friends as a member of Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, New York.
He was the husband to Sally (Healey) Alter for 52 years; father of Thomas Alter, Mark Alter, Peggy Alter, Marialice (Alter) Chipman, Michael Alter, Eileen Alter and Judy (Alter) Flynn; grandfather of 10 grandchildren; and brother to one brother and two sisters.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 30 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 1 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale.
