Margaret "Sally" Alter

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Margaret "Sally" Alter of Scarsdale died Saturday, Sept. 8. She was 75. 

Alter was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Springfield, Mass., to Charles and Margaret Healey. She graduated from Springfield Technical High School and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. 

Alter was an active parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the Scarsdale Women's Club. She and her family were longtime members of Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle. 

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Francis Alter; seven children, Thomas Alter, Mark Alter, Peggy Alter, Marialice Alter Chipman, Michael Alter, Eileen Alter and Judy Alter Flynn; two brothers, Charles M. Healey III and Joseph Healey; two sisters-in-law, Sister Mary Alter and Sister Alice Alter; and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Timothy Healey. 

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scarsdale Women's Club, 37 Drake Road, Scarsdale, NY 10583.
