Mavis Ellis Yorke, 93, Formerly Of Scarsdale

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Mavis Ellis Yorke of Palm Beach Gardens died July 21. She was 93.

Yorke was born Jan 22, 1920, in Mathiston, Miss., daughter of Ruth Hester and Noah Ellis. She graduated from Bennett Academy and Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. She worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture at Mississippi State University and later took a position as secretary to the Director of Flying at Columbus Army Air Base.

After her marriage she lived in Wilmington, Del.; Scarsdale, N.Y.; Greenwich, Conn.; Jupiter Island and Tequesta, Fla. She was a member of the Scarsdale and Greenwich Women's Clubs, where she volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program and participated in projects assisting children and the elderly.

Yorke is survived by children, Constance Yorke Webster of Greenwich, Conn., Kathryn Yorke of Lodi, Calif., Wendy Yorke Augustyn (Joe) of Riverton, N.J., and Kenneth Yorke, Jr. (Cissy) of Greenwich, Conn.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Anne Oswalt (Jesse) of Mathiston, Miss., Nancy Jones of Kosciusko, Miss.; and brother, Noah Stanley Ellis (Ann) of Madison, Miss. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Kenneth; brother, Harford Hester Ellis; and sister, Edna Hays.

Services will be private.
