Miriam Cedarbaum, 86, Former Scarsdale Village Justice

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Miriam Cedarbaum, a federal judge who also served as the Scarsdale village justice, died Friday, Feb. 5, at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, according to the New York Times. She was 86.

Cedarbaum was born Sept. 16, 1929, in Brooklyn to Louis and Sarah Goldman and graduated from Erasmus Hall High School, Barnard College and Columbia Law School, according to The Times.

Cedarbaum also worked as an associate counsel for the Museum of Modern Art and the Davis, Polk & Wardwell law firm in Manhattan, along with her part-time duties as Scarsdale village justice, The Times reported.

She served as a federal judge from 1986 to 2011, best-known for being the judge who sentenced Martha Stewart to five months in prison plus five months of home confinement for her part in an insider training scandal in 2004, according to The Times.

Cedarbaum was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Bernard. She is survived by sons Daniel and Jonathan, companion Robert Ehrenbard and four grandchildren, The Times reported.
