Retired Justice Louis A. Barone, 86, Of Scarsdale

SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Justice Louis A. Barone, of Scarsdale, died on Monday, Feb. 1. He was 86.

He was born in New Rochelle on April 11, 1929 to Margaret and Anthony Barone.

Barone had a long career in the law, first as an lawyer and later as a state Supreme Court justice. He was a judge of the Family Court in Westchester County from 1983 until 1991, when he was elected Supreme Court justice for the Ninth Judicial District, serving Westchester, Orange, Dutchess, Rockland and Putnam counties. His legal decisions on the termination of parental rights and child abuse are nationally recognized.

Barone served with the U,S. Marine Corps Reserves. He was a golf enthusiast and member of Leewood Golf Club in Eastchester.

He is survived by his wife, Constance (Fontanarosa); children Margaret, Lois, Lisa , Anthony, Louis and Nicholas; 13 grandchildren; and brother Frances Guadagnoli.

Barone was predeceased by siblings, Morris and Lillian Bruno.

Visiting hours are Thursday 4-8 p.m.at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes, 824 Scarsdale Ave., Scarsdale. 

A Catholic funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 8 Carman Road, Scarsdale 10583. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale 10530.
