Wilton Police Warn Of Suspicious White Van Spotted Near Area Schools

WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Police Department is warning residents about a white male driving a white van who has been acting in a suspicious manner, according to the school-age children who have spotted him.

A suspicious van has been spotted in numerous towns in Fairfield County in the past two weeks, causing alarm among children and parents.  

In Bethel on March 3 at 4:15 p.m. on Putnam Park Road, a middle school age girl got off a bus and was approached by a white male in his 30s driving a white van, possibly a Ford Econoline type van. He got out of his van and followed the girl. When the girl ran to a house, the male left in the van, police said.

In Norwalk on March 11, a 10-year-old girl in South Norwalk getting off a school bus and was approached by a white male in his 30s or 40s who was driving a white van. He asked whether she wanted candy and tried to coax her into the van, police said.

In Norwalk on March 17 at 4:15 p.m., a 53-year-old male was encountered parked near West Rocks Middle School sitting in a white van near where boys were playing basketball. He was arrested on drug charges, police said. 

In Redding on March 18 at 8:30 a.m. on Church Hill Road, a middle school girl was waiting for the bus when a white male in his 20s drove by in a dirty-looking white commercial van and slowed down, rolled down the window and made eye contact with her, police said. Nothing was said.

At this time, none of these incidents have been determined to be related, and the motive remains unknown, police said.

Any type of suspicious activity should be reported to the Wilton Police Department or any other town or city police department for investigation.
