Downed Power Lines Close Two Streets In Scarsdale

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Scarsdale Fire Department closed two roads Friday morning after a tree branch fell on power lines.

The branch fell from an oak tree at a residence on Drake Road. It landed on wires on Hamilton Road, causing damage to electric poles on Drake Road, Hamilton Road and Obry Drive. One of the poles needed to be replaced by Consolidated Edison.

Electric, telephone and television wires on Hamilton Road were torn down by the branch. The road was then closed because the branch was blocking the street. Drake Road was closed because of concerns of further branches falling and striking wires.

Con Edison cut off power to Hamilton Road and Obry Drive, and the Scarsdale Highway Department assisted in clearing the road. A tree crew removed branches that were posing danger.

The following incidents also were reported by the Scarsdale Fire Department:

Car Accident: About 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, firefighters were called to Heathcote Road for a two-vehicle accident. After helping the Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps with one patient, firefighters cleaned up a fluid spill. They then assisted Scarsdale police with directing traffic.

Car Accident: Just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, the Westchester County Police dispatched firefighters to the Mamaroneck Avenue exit of the Hutchinson River Parkway for a one-vehicle accident. A passenger in the car was injured, and firefighters again assisted the ambulance. They then controlled the scene until the vehicle could be towed.
