WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – David Mendelowitz, the former Scarsdale High School guidance counselor and dean of students facing drug and sex charges, had his case adjourned for the second time Friday. It is now scheduled for March 22.
Mendelowitz, 58, is one of three suspects who have been charged with numerous counts of patronizing a prostitute, possession of a controlled substance and hindering prosecution. He was initially charged Nov. 20, 2012. This is his second postponement.
The White Plains resident was caught as part of a 16-month investigation that led to a 180-count indictment charging 19 individuals and one corporation – Somad Enterprises Inc. – with enterprise corruption and a variety of underlying crimes.
Mendelowitz was a guidance counselor at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua from 1986 to 1997 before making his way to Scarsdale. During his tenure at Scarsdale, Mendelowitz was involved in various student programs, including the high school’s Drug and Alcohol Task Force.
