ELMSFORD, N.Y. -- A Queens man, who authorities said roughed up a woman and forced her out of his car in Elmsford last month, now faces assault charges, according to New York State Police.

William B. Rodriguez Jr., 29, of Maspeth, turned himself in to state police last month, police said.

State troopers from Hawthorne and Tarrytown were called to Exit 8A on Interstate 87 about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, to investigate a report that a woman had been beaten up and shoved out of a vehicle.

The unidentified victim, who had multiple cuts and bruises, refused medical treatment, police said.

Rodriguez, who fled before police arrived, was contacted by authorities through his probation officer, police said.

He initially refused to come in for questioning but eventually turned up at the state police’s Hawthorne barracks with his lawyer, police said.

Rodriguez was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct, police said.

He was arraigned in Elmsford Village Court and was released after posting $500 bail, police said.

He is to appear in court on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
