Between Aug. 22 and Aug. 29 officers patrolled around the city during the morning and afternoon hours, targeting drivers speeding near schools. Police also observed school bus stops to make sure that drivers stopped for all buses that were picking up children.
During the week, a total of 220 infractions were issued. Of those, 196 were for speeding, two infractions were issued for passing a stopped school bus, and 10 motor vehicle arrests were made for various charges.
Norwalk police will continue to conduct motor vehicle enforcement in schools zones during the school year. Police are reminding drivers to drive carefully and safely, and that certain fines double in school zones.
Norwalk police also conducted a DUI checkpoint on West Avenue from Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning. During the checkpoint, 38 infractions and summonses were issued, including two for driving under the influence, two for possession of narcotics and two for operating with a suspended license.
