NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - After more than two decades serving the city, New Rochelle Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll has announced his intention to retire at the end of the year.

New Rochelle City Manager Chuck Strome confirmed that after 24 years at the helm of the police department, Carroll has tendered his resignation, effective as of December 2017.

Strome - who will be tasked with finding a replacement for Carroll - said that he is hopeful of beginning a national search for a new commissioner in the fall, installing Carroll’s successor before he retires in an effort to ensure a smooth transition of power.

“(Carroll) has been here for 24 years and moved the department into what I believe to be the best police department in New York State,” Strome said on Thursday. “He’s set the groundwork for that to continue moving on into the future.”

New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson added that “Commissioner Carroll has served New Rochelle with distinction for more than twenty years, and his leadership of the New Rochelle Police Department has helped make our community one of the safest of its size in America.”
