Police Apprehend Auto Theft Suspect Fleeing In 2016 Acura In Westchester

RYE, N.Y. -- A 32-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday while fleeing the City of Rye in a stolen 2016 model vehicle, police said.

Edgardo Cortez, 32, of Manhattan was arrested Wednesday by Rye police while fleeing in a stolen 2016 Acura MDX near Rye Police Headquarters, 21 McCullough Place.

Edgardo Cortez of Manhattan was pulled over about 4:30 p.m. near Rye Police Headquarters off of Purdy Avenue.

He was charged with second-degree attempted grand larceny, a class D felony. 

Police allege that Cortez attempted to steal the 2016 Acura MDX in the vicinity of Purdy Avenue and McCullough Place. A newer model Acura MDX lists for a minimum of $43,000.

The suspect was caught fleeing the crime scene.

Cortez was arraigned in Rye City Court and sent to the Westchester County Jail on $25,000. bail.
