The victim was treated in Norwalk Hospital for what police said a doctor called a “god’s laceration,” meaning the deep cut to the victim’s neck did not hit any major arteries or vital areas. The cut to the neck was described as 6 inches in length and 1-inch deep on the left side, police said.

Hospital personnel reported the attack at about 11 p.m., when the victim walked into the emergency room. Police said he had been driven to the hospital by two friends, who left the facility before detectives could interview them.

The victim told officers he had been walking on Van Zant Street when he was attacked by three black males, police said. One punched him in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground, and then they rifled through his pockets, police said.

He was also slashed in the neck at the time but did not realize it until his attackers had run off, police said. When he stood up, he saw blood all over the front of his shirt, police said.

Police did not disclose what was stolen from the victim. But the victim described one assailant as wearing a white T-shirt and another wearing a bright-colored, hooded sweatshirt, police said.
