Police officers were dispatched to a Gatehouse Road residence in Scarsdale on Oct. 5 when a homeowner reported that a suspicious package had been delivered to the house.

Upon arrival, the homeowner told police that he had received the package, and upon opening it, determined that there was a large amount of marijuana, prompting him to contact law enforcement officials.

Police said that they took custody of the package, which was described as a solid brown cardboard box with no exterior labels. Inside the cardboard box was a child’s chest with the letters of the alphabet. Upon further inspection of the toy chest, officers identified five bags of marijuana, which were sealed with two layers of vacuum sealed bags and had dryer sheets between those layers.

Officers proceeded to weigh the bags, which were approximately one pound each. Three of the bags had the word “berries” on it, one was labeled “black diamond,” and the last read “indoor black diamond.” The suspicious package and marijuana are under investigation, and police increased patrol on Gatehouse Road.
