Scarsdale Man Arrested With 7 License Violations

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Scarsdale resident was arrested on Sunday afternoon after he was pulled over for talking on his cell phone and officers found that his driver’s license had  been suspended seven times.

According to the police report, Ryan Duffield, 32, was driving west through the intersection of Popham Road and Depot Place when officers in an unmarked patrol car saw spotted him talking on his cell phone and pulled him over.

The suspect didn’t have his license on him, but provided police with his passport. The driver alerted officers that he may have “a few suspensions” for unpaid tickets, which was confirmed by a Department of Motor Vehicles computer check. The computer verified that Duffield had seven suspensions, for failure to pay fines in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Police said that he was handcuffed, and charged with operation of a motor vehicle while using a mobile phone, and driver’s license violations, both infractions. He was additionally charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle for driving with three or more suspensions, a misdemeanor.

A warrant check revealed that the suspect had an active arrest warrant from the Midtown South precinct for “theft of services,” dating back to August 2010. New York City Police were unable to pick Duffield up, and he was released on $200 cash bail. He is due in Scarsdale Justice Court on Oct.3, and the New York City Police Department Warrant Section was advised of this appearance date for pickup.
