Scarsdale Police Arrest Suspect In Reckless Driving

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Scarsdale resident was accused of playing real-life bumper cars in the village over the weekend, colliding with a pair of vehicles on Walworth Avenue after losing control of his Mercedes-Benz while driving recklessly in poor conditions.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, police responded to Walworth Avenue and Berkeley Road after a witness alerted them to the speeding car, which had just blown through a stop sign and hit two cars before sputtering to a stop.

According to the police report, after ensuring that there were no injuries, Officer David Rosa identified the driver of the Mercedes as Scarsdale resident Kory Hutchinson, 29.

Jennifer Glantz, who was driving behind Hutchinson, said that the Mercedes was “travelling at a very high rate of speed, heading west on Berkeley Road.”

After making his way onto Walworth Avenue, the driver slid off the road before colliding with a 2014 Jeep Patriot and older model minivan that was parked in a driveway. Police were provided with surveillance video from a neighboring home.

“The defendant’s Mercedes-Benz was first observed traveling west on Berkeley Road at a dangerously high speed, given current road and weather conditions,” Rosa’s report read. “The vehicle, without slowing, went through the stop sign at Berkeley and Walworth without stopping and without care for injury or property.”

According to police, Hutchinson did not test positive for drug or alcohol use. He was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. He was released on $100 cash bail and is due back in village court on Wednesday.
