SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Scarsdale resident told the police that he was a victim of identity theft after more than $5,000 in unauthorized purchases were charged to his credit card, according to the police report.
The victim, who lives in an apartment on Popham Road, told police that he received a text message from Chase bank's Fraud Department alerting him of the possibly fraudulent charges. About $4,000 was charged last week in three purchases at an AT&T store in Hoboken, N.J.
According to the report, the man was also the victim of identity theft three months ago, when $1,200 was charged to his account at the same store. After that incident, Chase bank issued him a new credit card with the same number as the original card.
A fraud investigator is looking into the incident to wipe the charges from the resident’s account.
The following items also were reported by Scarsdale police:
Noise Complaint: Early Monday, Oct. 1, a Popham Road woman complained to police that a worker from Savona was causing excessive noise shortly after midnight while throwing out bottles. When the woman called to the employee to be quieter, he responded with verbal threats. Police spoke to the owner, telling him that bottles are not to be thrown out after 10 p.m. The employee was terminated, police said.
BB Gun Accident: Police officers spoke to three teenagers Saturday, Sept. 29, after they were carelessly playing with a BB gun and it accidentally discharged, striking one of them in the head. Officers spoke to their parents and warned the teenagers of the dangers of their actions and decision making.
Donations Stolen: The store manager of 7-11 on Garth Road told police Wednesday that two men stole a donation box for muscular dystrophy from the counter. According to the report, the men entered the store, and while one distracted employees by asking for items behind the counter, the other stuffed the box into his pants and left. The manager gave police a security video. It was unknown how much money was in the box.
