Scarsdale Police Investigating Reported Abuse

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A developmentally disabled Scarsdale woman was reportedly the victim of abuse by a staff member of Westchester ARC, according to a police report.

Police responded to the assisted living facility on Friday after a clinical team leader reported an incident that occurred on Aug. 16. Yonkers-based Allways East Transportation was transporting the woman, and the driver reported that a Westchester ARC member was too rough with the woman.

“[The staff member] practically dragged her in the house when the consumer has a very hard time walking,” the report says.

The victim didn’t have any discernible injuries, and did not have any visible marks as a result of the incident. She was unable to articulate what had happened to police due to her disability.

According to police, Westchester ARC is in the process of completing an internal investigation about the issue. Two staff members claim that there was tension between the staff member and victim, and they believe the incident could have happened since “both individuals are so passionate.”

A Country Club Road resident reported that her cell phone was stolen from her purse on Friday while she was shopping at the LF Clothing Store. She said she left her white iPhone 4 in her bag, which she found unzipped on the floor. Using an application on the phone, she was able to track it to Yonkers, and is following up with that department.

Nearly $30,000 of sterling silver silverware was stolen from a Cambridge Road residence. The victim said that toward the end of July he noticed that nine serving pieces and 18 place settings with a Georgian pattern were missing from his home, along with a wood chest that the silver was stored in. The residence is for sale, and prospective buyers have been in the home during the past year.
