Over the weekend, an alert was issued to village residents, warning of a recent increase in larcenies from vehicles in southern Westchester, Police Capt. Thomas Altizio said. Locals have been cautioned to always keep vehicles locked and to remove valuables from said vehicles to avoid becoming a victim.

Altizio noted that vehicles parked at outdoor gatherings and sporting events are often a target for thieves. At home, if possible, vehicles should be parked in a garage to ensure safety.

“Never leave handbags and valuable electronics and phones in plain view within your parked vehicle,” he stated. “If your car is parked outside, remove valuables and lock it. Use exterior lights, such as motion sensing lights, to illuminate your vehicle when left outdoors.”

Suspicious activity should be reported to the Police Department immediately, Altizio added. Police can be reached at (914) 722-1200 or by sending an anonymous tip online.

“If you see someone acting suspiciously around parked vehicles, call the police and try to provide a description of the person and any vehicle they may be operating.”
