Street Sign Damages Scarsdale Car

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Scarsdale resident woke up Sunday with an unwanted surprise on his car – someone had placed a street sign atop his vehicle, doing damage to the hood, Scarsdale Police said.

The victim, a 39-year old Scarsdale Boulevard resident, told police a crosswalk sign was placed on top of his parked vehicle, leaving a long scratch in the hood of the car.

The resident was made aware of the vandalism when his neighbor went jogging at 6 a.m. and saw the sign, according to the police report. That same neighbor said she heard youths outside at approximately 11:30 p.m. the night before, but no commotion. She told police something caught her dogs’ attention later in the night, though the cause of the barking remains unknown.

Police personnel placed the sign back into the ground at the corner of Scarsdale Boulevard and Bell Road. An estimate of damage to the vehicle was not available.

Interrupted larceny: A Hazelton Drive resident told police her son interrupted  someone who was in the process of stealing his bicycle Saturday from the home's garage. The garage had been left open while he cut trees in the backyard.

The victim told police that, when confronted, the man said, “I’m just looking at your bike.” When the man noticed the tools the victim had in his hands – a hammer and a knife – he said, “Don’t bring a knife to a gun fight. I like your house. I’ll be back."

The man did not appear to be armed, the victim told police.
