Adrian Smith, 19, was arrested at his Brooklyn apartment and sent back to Scarsdale to face the charges after cashing $6,830.67 in checks from a Mamaroneck Road resident.
On Thursday, Sept. 28, Smith was confronted by detectives at his residence, and when presented copies of the fraudulent checks, merely said, “Oh I received those in the mail from somebody.”
Police subsequently arrested him, charging him with felony counts of identity theft and fourth-degree grand larceny. He is also facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of a forged instrument.
Smith was arraigned before Justice Arlene Katz, who set bail at $15,000. Smith did not make bail and was sent to Westchester County Jail.
He is due back in court on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
