SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A 23-year-old Stamford, Conn. resident was arrested by Scarsdale police on Saturday after getting in an altercation with a taxi driver on Hamilton Road, police said.
According to the police report, three males took the cab from 85th Street and 2nd Avenue after the victim agreed to drop them off in Scarsdale. The first male was dropped off, and when the taxi got to its destination on Hamilton Road, the driver refused to take passenger Michael Carberry to Stamford, the police report said.
Upon hearing that he wouldn’t be driven to Connecticut, police said Carberry punched the driver in the face, which subsequently swelled up before police arrived. Police said Carberry was “in an apparent intoxicated condition,” after he fled to the rear of the Hamilton Road residence to hide.
The taxi driver positively identified Carberry, who was arrested and charged with second-degree harassment for the physical contact, police said. He was released to his father on $100 bail and is due to appear in Scarsdale Village Court on Jan. 19 at 9 a.m.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to a burglar alarm call on Circle Road during the snowstorm. Officers checked the house and found that the rear kitchen door had been damaged and tampered with. A windowpane was shattered, which gave the burglars access to the location. Police said they believe that the suspect broke the door and was then deterred by the homeowner’s security system.
Although police arrived at the scene within five minutes of the burglary, the suspect still was able to get away by fleeing toward the Scarsdale Village. Officers followed the fresh footprints that were left in the snow, but lost the trail at the intersection of Overhill and Popham Road.
Police said a neighbor reported a “strange individual in the backyard” who was of an average build, wearing a black jacket, black hat, dark pants and a large backpack.
The homeowners arrived home later that day from a weeklong vacation and alerted police that a wooden jewelry box, which contained several pieces of costume jewelry, was removed from the master bedroom.
