Shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, police were dispatched to a Brewster Road home after a contractor complained that he had been assaulted by Bridgeport-based Jorge Coelho.

According to the police report, Coelho told responding officers that a verbal argument had started while the two were working in the basement of the home, prompted after his victim reportedly called him a “midget” repeatedly. After “hearing enough of the verbal abuse,” Coelho - a mixed martial arts student - and his victim got into a scuffle, falling to the ground before Coelho struck him three time in the face with palm heel strikes.

The victim suffered an apparent broken blood vessel in his left eye and showed substantial swelling to his eye socket. After striking his victim, Coelho placed one of his arms around his victim’s throat, choking him until the altercation ended. Both parties were evaluated by medical personnel before refusing further assistance.

Coelho was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing. He was arraigned in Scarsdale Village Court and released on his own recognizance on Thursday afternoon.
