SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A White Plains woman was arrested on drug charges in Scarsdale after police found her asleep and slumped over in the front seat of her car over the weekend.
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, Sonia Alfenas, 21, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of a hypodermic instrument on Saturday morning after police spotted the contraband while performing a traffic stop.
At 11:56 p.m. on Friday, police investigated a “suspicious vehicle” parked near the intersection of Brayton Road and Walworth Avenue, where they found Alfenas asleep behind the wheel. She passed standard field sobriety tests without showing signs of impairment.
But, “During the initial interview of the defendant, patrol observed a hypodermic needle in plain sight, and also smelled the odor of marijuana coming out from the car,” Officer Katori Wilcher’s report says.
Upon a search of her vehicle, police officers found 17 unused hypodermic needles and one used needle that contained an unknown fluid. There was also “numerous green leafy odorous bud substances,” which the officer recognized as marijuana.
Alfenas was released on $100 bail. She is due back in court on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
