SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Stamford, Conn., driver looking for somewhere to “sleep it off” Sunday morning picked the wrong place when she turned into the parking lot of the Scarsdale Public Safety Building, police said.
Graciela Signes, 32, told police she had spent her Saturday night drinking at the Brazen Fox in White Plains before getting behind the wheel. At 3:40 a.m. Sunday, she was stopped when she drove her 2002 Volkswagen Beetle into the police parking lot in the wrong direction from Fenimore Road, despite warning signs, police said.
Her speech was slurred, her eyes were bloodshot and she struggled to maintain her balance when she was given a field sobriety test, officers said. Her blood alcohol content was 0.16 – double the legal limit. Signes was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and cited for driving the wrong direction on a one-way street, an infraction.
Signes was released on her own recognizance a few hours later and is due in court on Aug. 8. Because she was not the registered owner of the Volkswagen – who couldn’t be reached – police impounded the car.
