Democratic incumbent Andrew Cuomo, a New Castle resident, is being challenged by Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, a Hawthorne resident.

Astorino has attacked Cuomo for his handling of the Moreland Commission while Cuomo says Astorino's views are too extreme for New York.

Westchester voters will also vote on lieutenant governor, state comptroller and attorney general, and three propositions.

Longtime Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) is being challenged by Rockland resident Republican Chris Day in the 17th Congressional District, which covers a majority of Westchester.

The 18th District, which includes parts of Northern Westchester, will see a rematch between incumbent Sean Patrick Maloney (D-Cold Spring) and former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, a Republican who lives in Bedford. Maloney defeated Hayworth, then the incumbent, in 2012. Scott Smith, an Orange County resident, is running as a third party candidate.

Congressman Eliot Engel (D-Bronx) is running unopposed in the 16th District.

The most contentious race in the region has been the 40th Senate District, which sees Croton-on-Hudson resident Democrat Justin Wagner face Republican Terrence Murphy, a Yorktown councilman. The two are fighting to fill Senator Greg Ball's seat after Ball declined to run for re-election.

Senator George Latimer (D-Rye) aims for a second term representing the 37th District against Republican challenger Joe Dillon, a Yonkers resident.

Senator David Carlucci (D-Clarkstown) is running for a third term representing the 38th District against Republican Donna Held, a Rockland resident. The 37th District represents Rockland County, Ossining and Briarcliff.

In the 92nd Assembly District, Assemblyman Thomas Abinanti (D-Pleasantville) faces Republican Mike Duffy, a Mount Pleasant resident. The district represents Mount Pleasant and Greenburgh.

Assemblyman Steve Katz (R-Yorktown) is running for a third term in the 94th Assembly District against Democrat  Andrew Falk, a Brewster resident. The district represents Yorktown, Somers and Putnam.

Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, Assemblymen Gary Pretlow, Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer, Assemblyman Steve Otis, Assemblyman David Buchwald and Assemblywoman Sandy Galef are all running unopposed.

Voters in Croton will decide on the village board as Democrats face candidates from Croton United, a new political party.

Ossining Mayor Bill Hanauer aims for a fifth term running on the Working Families Party line against Democrat Trustee Victoria Gearity, who defeated Hanauer in the Democratic primary.

Mamaroneck has six candidates running for three seats on the town board.

Special town board elections are being decided in Armonk, Pound Ridge, North Salem, White Plains and Yorktown.
