The attempted hacks came in the form of several emails containing fraudulent speeding tickets that were sent to Clinton's account over four hours in August 2011, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Though there is no definitive proof the hackers were Russians, experts in such matters told the paper that the malicious software contained in the email was designed to transmit data to at least three servers overseas, including one in Russia, the story said.

Whether Clinton opened any of the attachments or compromised any of her data remained unclear, according to the report.
