Last week, Dani Lever, 29, of Scarsdale was promoted from spokesperson to press secretary of the Cuomo administration, making history in the process. She replaces John Kelly, who began a transition into the private sector on Friday.

Lever has been with Cuomo’s administration for nearly three years and previously served as a press secretary for city Comptroller Bill Thompson during his failed mayoral campaign in 2009. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she has also worked for Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the Clinton Foundation and as a press assistant at Obama for America.

"Over the last three years, Dani has proven to be an invaluable member of our team and an effective messenger for the governor and his work to move New York Forward," Cuomo Chief of Staff Melissa DeRosa said in a statement. "She's tough. She's smart. And - as any reporter in New York knows - she's tenacious."
