Donald Trump is the presumptive presidential nominee for the Republican Party following his dominant victory in the Indiana primary, which caused his closest competitor, Texas Sen.Ted Cruz to drop out of the race.

Reince Preibus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, said it was time to unite around Trump, who owns an estate and properties in Westchester and Dutchess, and focus on defeating Hillary Clinton. Gov. John Kasich has said he will continue on.

At Trump Tower, a subdued Trump said it had been an unbelievable year.

"I never have been through anything like this," Trump said. "It's a beautiful thing to watch and a beautiful thing to behold and we're going to make America great again."

During his speech, Trump discussed the barrage of negative advertising run against him.

"I turned on the television and all I saw was negative ads," Trump said. "There have been 60,000 negative ads. Most of which are absolutely false and disgusting. How can anybody endure this? That's just incredible. The people are so smart. They don't buy it, they get it. $8 million was spent against me and we spent $900,000."

Trump went after Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, saying she would not be a good president and criticized her for her support of North American Free Trade Agreement. Trump mentioned visiting Poughkeepsie and seeing the firsthand effects of the bill.

"She doesn't understand trade," Trump said. "I was witness to the carnage over the last six weeks, especially. We're going to change it around. We're going to bring back our jobs and keep our jobs. We're not going to let companies leave."

Trump praised Cruz, calling him hell of a competitor.

"He is a tough smart guy," Trump said. "He has got an amazing future. I want to congratulate Ted. I know how tough it is.

Trump, who owns an estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor.
