Scarsdale Teacher's Car Burglarized at High School

SCARSDALE, N.Y. –A Scarsdale High School teacher reported his car was broken into Wednesday in the school's parking lot.

The teacher told Scarsdale Police he put his school-issued laptop computer in his car at about 4 p.m., along with two briefcases full of school paperwork, and two pair of eyeglasses. When he returned to the car, parked on the Brewster Road side of the school across from the gym, about 6 p.m. he found a window shattered and the items missing, according to the report. The man told police the items were worth about $1,600.

At the time of the break-in, according to the report, a basketball game was underway at the school between Scarsdale and Mount Vernon high schools.

Gas leak: A report of a possible gas leak Tuesday night on Rural Drive led to Con Edison workers and Scarsdale firefighters breaking into two homes, according to a Scarsdale Police report. In one case, firefighters entered through a garage door without damage. No gas leak was found, and Con Edison left a note for the homeowner that it had been there. Con Ed and the firefighters then headed next door, where firefighters damaged a window lock to enter the kitchen. Again, no gas leak was found by Con Ed workers, and a note was left for the homeowners. In both cases, Scarsdale firefighters secured the homes before leaving, the report said.

Drunk and lost: A Scarsdale police officer noticed a man walking in an unsteady manner along Post Road about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The officer stopped traffic in both directions near Fenimore Road to avoid a traffic accident, and stopped the pedestrian, who said he was intoxicated and lost. The man gave his address as a homeless shelter in White Plains. The man was taken to White Plains Hospital for evaluation

Burglary: A Fairview Road resident reported Thursday morning that his home had been burglarized. No other details were immediately available, according to Scarsdale Police.
