Police Link Fairfield Suspect to More Burglaries

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A suspect in a Feb. 1 burglary attempt on Redding Road has been linked to three other home break-ins spanning the last year, Fairfield police say. Joseph K. Johnson, 25, of Oldfield Road, has been charged in incidents on Dalewood Avenue, Sherwood Drive and Taintor Drive.

Johnson was first arrested on Feb. 1 as a suspect in a break-in attempt on Redding Road. The owner arrived home that morning and found a man trying to enter the house through a downstairs window.

Johnson and two Norwalk men were found nearby in a car that was reported stolen and the homeowner identified Johnson as the break-in suspect at the time, police say.

Investigators used evidence found in the car and at the scene of the prior burglaries and interviews to link Johnson to three other break-ins, police say. The other crimes occurred on Dalewood Road in May, 2011, on Sherwood Drive on Jan. 28 and on Taintor Drive on Jan. 31.

Johnson was charged Friday with failure to appear in court and two counts each of third-degree larceny and third-degree burglary. His bond was set at a total of $160,000. He is scheduled to enter a plea on March 2.
