NORWALK, Conn. – To help them better communicate with their constituents, several state legislators will learn the ins and outs of using Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday in the Legislative Office Building at the state capitol.
Hosted by state Sen. Bob Duff (D-Norwalk), the workshop will be run by executives from the two social media companies who will make presentations and field questions from the legislators. The event is expected to last two hours.
Duff, who is a local Realtor in addition to serving in the state Senate, said in a statement that he has found using social media to be an “invaluable tool for communicating with constituents.” For example, through his Twitter feed, Duff constantly keeps residents up to date on road closures and accidents.
“I find myself posting to both Twitter and Facebook almost every single day, and I believe that doing so has made me a better public official,” said Duff. “I invite all other legislators to attend this forum and find out how they can get started with social media, or learn to use it better.”
The event is being co-sponsored by AT&T and the Connecticut Technology Council, and, in addition to Duff, other presenters include Katie Harbath, associate manger for policy at Facebook, and Mindy Finn, head of Strategic Partnerships for Politics and Advocacy at Twitter.
