The discount, worth 20 percent on the delivery portion of the O&R electrical bill for five years, is coupled with a New York PowerAuthority hydropower allotment that extends for seven years, according to a statement from Fifteenfortyseven Critical Systems Realty, the data center in question.

The combination of the awards will allow the operators of the center to maintain some of the lowest power costs in the region.

According to the company, the cost savings achievable in Rockland were a prime reason for selecting the area for ongoing business.

"Our continued development and expansion in Orangeburg can be attributed to competitive advantages, such as the economic incentive rate, the region provides for our tenants," states Patrick Hynes, managing director and co-founder of 1547. "We are glad to make a home in Rockland County and appreciate the support of the local government and utility organizations."

Rockland County Executive Ed Day said 1547's deal is evidence of the myriad ways he seeks to bring smart and sustainable business to the area.

"I am proud of the fact that, in this case, an agreement was achievable thus furthering those goals," Day said.

Al Samuels, president and CEO of the Rockland Business Association, said his group was pleased that 1547 received the energy benefits.

"The availability of this very favorable rate is a significant example of the competitive opportunities in our region and the support companies can expect from our electric utility," he said.
