“PBA members and all officers, specifically uniformed officers, need to take extra caution and use increased safety in the coming weeks.
“The heightened hostility from nationwide protests have led to a fever pitch of anti-police sentiment. This open hostility has created more tense encounters with officers even on routine incidents such as motor vehicle stops.
“The State PBA is advising officers to be alert for any interaction where a person may be looking for a confrontation.
“In addition to routine interaction, officers need to be vigilant for potential ambushes.
“The tragedy in New York City reinforce the need to always be cognizant of people targeting our profession.
“The best defense to avoid being ambushed is to remain vigilant and avoid complacency. Officers should change up their routines, such as meal break locations, and wait for additional backup on any calls which appear out of the ordinary.
“Officer safety requires us all to be on alert and watch out for each other.
“Take the extra time to ensure we all get safely home to our families.”
