Putnam County Gives GOP State Senators Murphy, Serino Free Office Space

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Whether elected officials have to pay rent for county office space appears to depend on their political ties, according to an investigation by lohud.com.

Lohud.com reported that the GOP-dominated county government has allowed Republican State Senators Terrence Murphy of Yorktown, and Sue Serino of Hyde Park to use space rent-free as district offices while denying the same to Democratic politicians such as U.S. Rep. John Hall and others. (Hall served from 2007-11.)

Their temporary quarters became permanent last year under County Executive MaryEllen Odell’s administration, Wilson wrote.

The trouble is, any permanent residency or lease deal needs to be approved by the county Legislature, and that didn’t happen, lohud.com said.
