The secure messages, send through tip411, let users provide tips about crimes or suspicious activity – while their identifications are blocked -- “and lets the officers respond, creating an anonymous two-way conversation,” Police Chief Bryan Gurney said Wednesday.
Used by over 1,200 communities throughout the nation, “enables anyone with a cell phone to text anonymous tips” to police, Gurney said.
“These tips are received in real-time and can be responded to in seconds via an interface that allows for secure web and text-based conversations,” he said.
The system is 100%, the chief emphasized.
“Its technology removes all identifying information before police see it,” he said. “There is no way to identify the sender.”
He also stressed that tip411 is a crime tip hotline only.
If you need other police assistance or have an emergency, dial 911 or (201) 327-2400.
You can send tips to Gurney’s his department Department by texting “ramseypd” and their message/tip to 847411 (tip411).
Anonymous online tips can also be submitted to ramseypd.org.
