A man told police that he and another man were almost hit by a Toyota Highlander while walking near 97 Water Street around 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, Worcester Police said on Facebook.
The same man waved his arms out of outrage, prompting the driver of the Toyota to get out and point a gun at the pedestrian. The man then called 911 and followed the Toyota in his own car, police said.
The Toyota was later found pulled over on Grafton Street. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver first complied but then started speeding down Grafton Street.
Police eventually lost sight of the Toyota until they learned that it has flipped upside down in front of the Roosevelt Elementary School, located at 1006 Grafton Street.
Initial investigation suggests the Toyota was speeding down Grafton when it hit a curb, lost control and crossed the double yellow line. The car then hit a Dodge Ram that was going in the opposite direction, struck a tree and flipped, police said.
Seven people were trapped inside and six were taken to area hospitals, police said. A 34-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
Officers also seized a black airsoft gun designed to resemble a Glock 19 handgun from the vehicle. The crash is under investigation.
