The Astorino Challenge in education, or ACE, offered a free season pass to Playland to students who signed up at the beginning of the school year and achieved one of the following benchmarks – a final GPA of at least 3.8, 95%, or perfect attendance for the entire school year.
Astorino honored several of the students who met the challenge at a brief ceremony Tuesday at Rye Playland.
One of those students - Tiffany Gonzalez, 14, of Yonkers, told Daily Voice the program helped motivate her because she likes going to Playland.
"I think it's a great program to encourage kids to achieve in school," Gonzales said. "I like going to Playland, so it motivated me because I knew that if I worked hard, that at the end of the school year there would be a reward - beside going to the next grade."
This was the county's third-year issuing the ace challenge. This year saw more than 900 Westchester students sign up for the challenge, nearly double the number who signed up for the first two years combined.
