SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Edgemont High School is ranked 18th in the state and 104th nationally in the 2013 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings .
The magazine teamed with American Institutes for Research, a behavioral and social science research organization, to evaluate more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Data was from the 2010-11 school year.
Schools were ranked based on state proficiency standards and college readiness, and awarded schools either a gold, silver or bronze medal based on these criteria.
Edgemont received a gold medal because 99 percent of its students tested as proficient in English and math.
Students had a 74.7-college readiness index, which was based on how many students took advanced placement (AP) and international baccalaureate (IB) exams to earn college credit and the percentage of students who passed at least one AP exam. In Edgemont, 82 percent of students took AP courses and 88 percent of those passed the course.
