The effort involves planting organic, fresh produce for delivery to public food centers, Grace Church Soup Kitchen in White Plains and Fred's Pantry in Peekskill.

The activity also advances towards the goal of building a more sustainable community, both inside and outside of the school grounds, said a release.

Most of the school departments use the garden as an outdoor classroom, and the Sustainable Garden Project club helps to facilitate garden-based lessons.

Through the gardening effort, students learn year-round eco-system-based food production.

Volunteers may join the May 14 effort that includes a potluck dinner.

Those unable to attend that day, but want to help during the summer may call Maggie Favretti at (914) 721-2567.
