How Many Dads Does It Take To Erect A Simple Outdoor Structure?

“To be fair, only one of them was Montessori educated," quips a Mom in response.

When a greenhouse was erected this Spring on the grounds of Hudson Country Montessori School, a key tenet of the school’s philosophy was quite literally placed into student hands. Dr. Maria Montessori’s methodology fosters community and nurtures independence. Students create with confidence, learn actively, and display motivation as they interact cooperatively as world citizens.

Sustainability, or conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources, is a hot topic at all curricular levels. However, study of such balance and its elegance remains theoretical at best if one doesn’t get ones hands dirty!

Ms. Dierdra Wallin, Certified Advanced Master Gardener, is spearheading the many exciting projects HCMS’s new greenhouse will be hosting. In anticipation of this year’s summer camp, exiting students will plant sunflower seeds. Once the seedlings are sturdy enough to be planted outdoors, they will line the school’s front gate, welcoming incoming campers with their cheerful blooms. In return, campers will plant and tend pumpkins. These will be used for the school’s Fall Harvest Festival.

How many positive, peaceful, and proactive students does it take to impact our world? Well, you know that answer!
