SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Students at Seely Place Elementary School marked Veterans Day with a special assembly this week for fourth- through sixth-grade students and local veterans and officials as part of the school's participation in the History Channel's Take a Veteran to School program.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner was among the local officials to attend the ceremony, one of many throughout the country to celebrate veterans along with active military personnel.

Veterans Troy Smith, Tom Mooney and Joe Worley, who brought his vet dog Benjamin from Vet Dogs of America, were among the veterans who attended the ceremony and were thanked by teachers and students. Students read poems and sang songs to honor all veterans, officials said.

Take a Veteran to School Day connects veterans with students and is a national program developed by the History Channel, in cooperation with local cable companies. Veterans come into the schools and share their stories with students and in return are thanked for their service.

Altice Connects and Optimum joined the History Channel at Seely Place School for this event, Feiner said.

The program is now in its 10th year, and more than 25,000 schools nationwide have participated. For more information on the program, visit History Channel's website .
