Casa Purchase, an outreach center for Latin American Studies, will proctor the classes in partnership with the Westchester Hispanic Coalition and the Office for New Americans of New York State.

Classes at all levels (beginner, intermediate, and intermediate/advanced) will be taught by TESOL certified instructors, with Purchase students as learning assistants.

The class schedule is as follows: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Leandro Benmergui, assistant professor of history and coordinator of Latin American Studies at Purchase, heads Casa Purchase, which is a collaboration between the college and various local communities.

Started last summer, the organization also offers service-learning internships for Purchase students, youth development programs for Westchester high school students, and a Transmedia Oral History Lab.

“Casa Purchase weaves together the educational, artistic, and research opportunities at Purchase College with the needs of local residents, officials, schools, and organizations.” Benmergui says.

The English classes are open to all, but registration is required.
