SCARSDALE, N.Y. The Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale is hosting an open house Tuesday for its preschool music programs.
The school is opening its doors for parents of children ages 4 months to 5 years from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Parents can meet with members of the Hoff-Barthelson early childhood faculty as well as parents of current students and parents of students that have graduated from the preschool programs and moved on to other lessons at the school.
The Hoff-Barthelson Preschool for children ages 3 and 4 offers an environment that promotes physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, designed to prepare children for kindergarten. Children are involved through play in a full curriculum, with an emphasis on music and art. Children attend twice-weekly music and movement classes in Dalcroze eurhythmics.
Preschool classes are designed to introduce young children to elements of music in preparation of more formal study. Classes include parent-child classes for children up to age 3, Getting to Know You: Exploring Instruments, for kindergartners and recorder or Suzuki lessons for age 5 and 6.
The facultys goal is to instill a lifelong love of music in the students. The Hoff-Barthelson Music School preschool classes afford students a number of important skills. They will be taught to focus and concentrate, to listen and keenly observe and to become interested in watching and sharing with their peers. Through these lessons, the staff helps foster an appreciation in music and the arts.
