Scarsdale Music School Seeks Adult Chorus Members

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale announced the first of its two auditions for its popular adult Festival Chorus.

The audition has been scheduled from 7:30-9:30 p.m. June 25 at the Music School. Singers are welcomed for all choral sections. The ensemble rehearses from 8-9:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Scarsdale Women’s Club.

During the audition, singers will be asked to accomplish three feats. They will first be asked to perform one aria or choral piece of their choosing that is no longer than two minutes. They then must sing the appropriate voice part of Brahms’ “Zigeunerlieder” against the accompaniment. Pages six and seven of the music can be found here. They will then be tasked with sight-reading a vocal line from a Bach chorale.

The Festival Chorus performs three times throughout the year. It sings at the school’s December Holiday Music Festival, the mid-winter Baroque and Beyond or Classics in Concert Festival, and the Music of Our Time Festival.
