Scarsdale Picks Sbnc Members, OKs Document Changes

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Scarsdale voters went to the polls Tuesday to choose 10 new members of the School Board Nominating Committee (SBNC) and to vote on changes to the SBNC document that governs the nominating process.

The new SBNC members are:

Edgewood: Kathryn Conlon and Mary Beth Evans Fox Meadow: Diane Baylor and Mary Lou D'Silva Greenacres: Dana Matsushita and Barry Meiselman Heathcote: Amy Cohen Bauman and Peggy DaSilva Quaker Ridge: Debbie Hochberg and Tracy Nathanson

They will join 20 others already on the committee serving staggered three-year terms. The committee will have its first meeting Sunday, Jan. 22.

All six proposed amendments to the SBNC governing resolution were approved by voters.

This year, 528 voters cast ballots in the election, compared with 381 a year ago. Fox Meadow had the highest number of voters with 138 ballots cast. Greenacres had the lightest turnout with 76 voters. The other three districts were close: Heathcote had 108 voters, Quaker Ridge 105 and Edgewood 101.

The School Board Nominating Committee is the panel charged with finding and nominating candidates for the Board of Education. This year, the SBNC will nominate two candidates for the board to fill the seats currently held by Mary Beth Gose and Lewis Leone Jr., who will be completing their first terms and are eligible for re-nomination. Those choosing to run without going through the SBNC can do so by getting 10 petition signatures.

The school board election, which includes a public vote on the school district budget, will be held May 15.
